About the Event

A decorated attorney and activist, Brittany K. Barnett has been named one of America's most Outstanding Young Lawyers by the American Bar Association and was on Essence's "Woke 100" list of 2019. Barnett speaks openly about the flawed American criminal justice system and is dedicated to challenging and dismantling life sentences in prison for federal drug offenses. In her new memoir, A Knock at Midnight: A Story of Hope, Justice, and Freedom, Barnett takes readers through her beginnings as a law student studying corporate law, to her encounter with a criminal drug case that changed the trajectory of her career. The founder of several nonprofit organizations and social enterprises that support and advocate for people directly impacted by the criminal justice system, such as girls whose mothers are incarcerated, Barnett is dedicated to showcasing the impact that formerly incarcerated people can have when they are able to not only survive, but thrive.
